WEDNESDAY’S PREP GIRLS SOCCER ROUNDUP: St. Mary’s hands Oakland Christian first loss; Ogemaw Heights wins fifth straight; Northern Michigan Christian remains unbeaten; Marquette edges rival Kingsford; Unity Christian keeps cruising

ORCHARD LAKE, Mich. – Unranked in Division 2, Orchard Lake St. Mary’s keeps chalking up wins.

The Eaglets, who are in just their third season of varsity play, handed Division 4 state-ranked Auburn Hills Oakland Christian its first loss of the campaign Wednesday with an 8-0 non-conference victory.

University of Toledo commit Cameron Cole was a wrecking crew on the red turf, scoring five goals while assisting on two others for St. Mary’s (7-1-1).

Caroline Kopmeyer added a goal and an assist, Harper Natinsky and Alexis Hazamy also scored and Alexis Laskowski drew an assist for the Eaglets.

Kira Howcroft picked up the team’s 7th shutout in nine games for OLSM.

WEST BRANCH OGEMAW HEIGHTS 8, BIG RAPIDS CORSSROADS ACADEMY 0: The Falcons recorded their fifth straight shutout in this lopsided Northern Michigan Soccer League win. Lucy Luptowski scored four straight goals and added an assists and Jade Gilbert scored a goal and assisted on two others in the win for Ogemaw Heights (6-2-1, 5-0-1). The Falcons have now outscored its foes 49-7 this season and have posted five straight 8-0 wins – all inside conference play.

MCBAIN NORTHERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 1, GLADWIN 0: The Comets remained unbeaten with this Northern Michigan Soccer League victory over Gladwin. Jenna VanNoord scored off her own cornerkick in the 13th minute for Northern Michigan Christian (8-0-0, 6-0-0). Harper Tossey recorded 12 saves for the shutout.

MARQUETTE 3, KINGSFORD 1: In an Upper Peninsula Soccer Association battle featuring the U.P.’s traditional top two teams, Marquette scored three early goals and coasted to the rivalry victory. Lily Eberhard scored the eventual game-winner off a set piece in the 10th minute and added an insurance tally later in the first half for the recently-renamed Sentinels.  Anabel Ollila scored off a cross from Erin Phillips in the fifth minute for Marquette. Ingrid Holt scored in the second half for Kingsford.

HUDSONVILLE UNITY CHRISTIAN 6, HAMILTON 1: Hamilton was ab le to snap Unity Christian’s 520-minute streak of not allowing a goal. Offensively, the Division 3 No. 2-ranked Crusaders still exploded for six goals. Unity Christian (7-0-0, 5-0-0) now sits atop the Ottawa Kent Conference-blue Division and has outscored its foes 31-2 with five shutouts. Only Muskegon Mona Shiores in the opener and Hamilton were able to score on the Crusaders defense.

MIDLAND 3, MIDLAND DOW 3: These two teams battled to this rivalry draw Wednesday in Saginaw Valley League play. Midland is ranked in the top-15 in Division 2 and Dow ranked in Division 1.

UTICA EISENHOWER 3, NEW BALTIMORE ANCHOR BAY 1: Ava Dukaj recorded a goal and an assist to lead Eisenhower to this key Macomb Area Conference-Red Division victory. Ellera Jakubowski and Sonja Peterson also scored for the Eagles.

ROMEO 0, MACOMB DAKOTA 0: It was a goalkeepers special Wednesday night in this Macomb Area Conference-Red Division contest. Dakota’s Brooklyn Perron and Romeo’s Chloe Witte and Bella Stojanovski starred between the framework.

WHITE LAKE LAKELAND 1, WATERFORD KETTERING 0: In a Lakes Valley Conference battled featuring two of Michigan’s most improved sides, Lakeland was able to escape with this 1-0 victory. Emery Collick scored for the Eagles with an assist going to Savannah Herning. Freshman Audrey Beuhner recorded her second shutout for Lakeland.

MASON 1, MARSHALL 1: Stefanie DeJong scored in the 75th minute as Marshall earned the tie against state-ranked Mason. Aly Zulewski record a penalty kick save amongst her nine stops on the night. Four of Marshall’s last five games have come against state-ranked sides.

ELK RAPIDS 5, GRAYLING 0: Elk Rapids remained in the Lake Michigan Conference title chase with this five-goal win over Grayling. Pipre Meteer had two goals and an assist and Kendall Standfest also recorded the brace for the Elks (4-5-1, 4-1-0). Elizabeth Pike added a goal, Sierra Boilore, Cora Moore and Carlee Bingham picked up an assist and Natasha Beebe recorded one save for the shutout.

GIBRALTAR-CARLSON 1, DEARBORN EDSEL FORD 0: Carlson was able to squeak out this narrow Downriver League victory over Edsel Ford.

STANDISH-STERLING 5, ITHACA 4: Emily Ahern scored all four goals but Ithaca came up short in this Tri-Valley Conference matchup.
