USL CHAMPIONSHIP: Detroit City FC returns to winning ways with 4-0 shutout over Miami FC

MIAMI, Florida – Detroit City FC returned to its winning ways Saturday night.

The Le Rouge paid a visit to Miami FC and walked off the pitch with a resounding 4-0 victory over USL-Championship Eastern Conference rival Miami FC where DCFC earned its fifth league shutout of the season.

Detroit City FC (10-5-2, 8-4-2 USL-Championship) held even with Miami with 14 shots apiece, but converted four of its eight chances on frame to prevail and move to 3-2-0 in its last five games.

The win marked the first time in nearly two years that DCFC scored four goals in a match, the last time coming Oct. 1, 2022, in a 4-1 victory over Loudoun United.

Maxi Rodriguez netted a brace off the bench and Michael Bryant and Rhys Williams also scored to the Le Rouge, who moved into fifth place out of 12 teams in the Eastern Conference of USL-Championship.

Williams scored what proved to be the game-winner in the 44th minute on a nice individual effort. Williams carved up a defender before breaking into the box before uncorking a laser into the back of the net.

Bryant added an insurance tally in the 51st minute, heading home a set piece from Ryan Williams to give DCFC a 2-0 advantage.

Recently subbed into the game, Rodriguez scored his first of two goals. After corralling a pass from Abdoulaye Diop in tight space, Rodriguez one-timed a blast into the webbing of the net in the 72nd minute.

Rodriguez capped the scoring in the 93rd minute, this time finishing off a cross from Elvis Amoh in the wanning seconds to complete the four-goal outburst.

Nate Steinwascher recorded three saves for the team’s fifth USL-Championship clean sheet of the season.

While both teams recorded 14 total shots, DCFC held an 8-04 advantage with shots on frame. Mimi FC held a 6-2 edge on cornerkicks could not break down the Le Rouge defense.

Detroit City FC has now outscored the opposition 23-17 in league games this season and are one game out of the hunt to host a home playoff game at the mid-point of the season.

Next up, Detroit City FC is set to host the Tampa Bay Rowdies at Keyworth Stadium on Saturday, July 6.
