TUESDAY’S PREP GIRLS SOCCER ROUNDUP: Forest Hills Central blanks Jenison; Mona Shores draws with rival Reeths-Puffer; Hackett edges Our Lady of the Lake
GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. – Coming out of the spring break, Grand Rapids Forest Hills Central returned to its winning ways with its third shutout of the young campaign.
This time the Rangers blanked Jenison in an Ottawa Kent Conference crossover contest.
Haley Ward scored the eventual game-winner off a cross from Ayla Thompson to lead Forest Hills Central (3-0-0). Sydney Ryan scored the second goal unassisted, while Thompson set up the third goal with a helper to Aubrey Leedsma’s goal.
The Rangers have now outscored the opposition 8-0 on the year with victories over Grandville (4-0) and Caledonia (1-0) before the break.
Forest Hills Central is coming off a season where it finished second in the OKC White Division before winning a Division 2 district crown.

MUSKEGON MONA SHORES 1, MUSKEGON REETHS-PUFFER 1: Ave Freye scored for the Sailors off an assist from Addison Fisher in this OKC Green Division contest. Mona Shores (3-1-1, 0-0-1) outshot the Rockets by a wide 9-2 margin with shots on frame, although Reeths-Puffer scored in the 80th minute to tie the contest.
KALAMAZOO HACKETT CATHOLIC PREP 4, ST. JOSEPH OUR LADY OF THE LAKE CATHOLIC 2: Natalie Burhans scored twice for Hackett. Addie Schmucker added a goal and two assists and Erin Cook also scored for the Irish. Alexis Wild scooped up three assists for the win, while Claire Jollay had 12 saves for Our Lady of the Lake. Nora Proos and Julia Wilcox scored for SJOLOTLC while Madison Fraser drew an assist.
HARTLAND 3, CANTON 1: This showdown of two Division 1 top-15 schools and KLAA West Division foes ended with Hartland grabbing another victory on the young campaign. Josie Cheyne (Claire L’Esperance assist) and Alyse Daavettia netted the eventual game-winner (Addie Frantti assist) in the first half for Hartland. Frantti netted an insurance tally in the second half for the Eagles (4-1-0). Backup sophomore goalkeeper Marissa Ramirez starred in goal for Hartland.
ROCHESTER 1, ROCHESTER ADAMS 1: These two OAA Red Division foes decided nothing in this key league matchup of two top-15 teams in Division 1.
TROY ATHENS 2, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 0:Visiting Athens picked up goals from Sydney McBride and Lulu Thaqi in this OAA Red Division victory. Lauren DeJonckheere drew an assist and Ashley Miller notched the shutout in goal for the Red Hawks (4-0-0, 1-0-0).
ROMEO 1, ANN ARBOR HURON 0: Romeo stepped out of Macomb Area Conference play to earn this non-conference win Tuesday. Ava Blomquist scored the goal and Julie Sandoval picked up the assist for the Bulldogs.
HUDSONVILLE 2, GRAND RAPIDS SOUTH CHRISTIAN 0: A game featuring Division 1 top-ranked Hudsonville and Division 3 top-ranked South Christian ended with a 2-0 victory for the Hudsonville side. The game was an OKC crossover contest.
