THURSDAY’S PREP GIRLS SOCCER ROUNDUP Athens going Lulu after late goal; Cadillac hands Petoskey first loss; Hudsonville, Allendale roll; Marian, Bloomfield Hills draw



CLARKSTON, Mich. – Troy Athens rebounded from only its second loss of the season with a narrow win over Clarkston in an OAA Crossover game Thursday.

And it took a highlight-reel goal to do it.

Sophomore Lulu Thaqi scored off a header during a goal-mouth scramble following a flick from Ashley Thorton and Athens moved to 8-2-2 overall.

Ashley Miller picked up the Red Hawks’ ninth shutout of the campaign where Athens holds a 25-4 scoring edge. The win also marked Athens’ third one-goal win in its last six games.


HUDSONVILLE 2, CALEDONIA 0: Kendall Aikens and Laura Moylan scored goals and Maislin Joldersma drew an assist as the Eagles remained in first place in the eight-school Ottawa Kent Conference-Red Division. Reid DeGoode notched the shutout for Hudsonville (7-0-2, 4-0-1), which has a four-point lead on Rockford in the OKC-Red standings. Hudsonville now has eight shutouts and has outscored its opposition 28-1 this season.



CADILLAC 1, PETOSKEY 0: Kyah Narovich scored off a penalty kick in the 75th minute and the Vikings defense made it stand in this Big North Conference upset. Cadillac handed Petoskey its first loss of the campaign. Lydia Owens notched 14 saves to her record her third straight shutout, all via 1-0 style, as the Vikings moved to 5-5-3 overall and 2-3-1 in the conference. Petoskey slips to 8-1-1 overall and 5-1-0 in league play. The Norsemen have outscored the opposition 25-4 this season but were shut out for the first time this year.


ALLENDALE 5, HOLLAND 0: Allendale scored two first-half goals and broke the game open with three more tallies in the second half in this OKC crossover game Thursday. Five different players scored goals for the Falcons. Allendale moved to 4-7-1 with the win and the team recorded its second shutout of the campaign.


BIRMINGHAM MARIAN 1, BLOOMFIELD HILLS 1: Agatha Valka scored in the second half for Marian while Chloe Salo tallied five minutes later for Bloomfield Hills in this non-league draw.


GRAND RAPIDS FOREST HILLS CENTRAL 8, GREENVILLE 0: Forest Hills Central scored early and often in recording the Ottawa Kent Conference-White Division win. The Rangers moved into second place with the win and improved to 9-3-1 overall and 6-1-0 in the league. Forest Hills Central has now recorded eight shutouts in 13 games and own a 37-11 scoring edge with the eight-goal outburst. Aubrey Leedsma netted the hattrick to pace the Rangers. Sydney Ryan added two goals and two assists, Ayla Thompson had one goal and added a helper, freshman Brooklyn Reuter and Tessa Grooters also scored and Haley Ward picked up an assist in the mercy-shortened contest. Addison Reuter snared the shutout in goal.


CANTON 0, HARTLAND 0: Jenna Brock made 11 saves for Hartland. Juila Tasker made 10 saves for Canton. Hartland still holds a four-point advantage on Canton in the KLAA-West Standings.

ANN ARBOR SKYLINE 7, DEXTER 0: Skyline remained in first place in the Southeastern Conference-Red Division with this lopsided win.


EAST GRAND RAPIDS 2, GRAND RAPIDS FOREST HILLS NORTHERN 1: East Grand Rapids moved into third place in the eight-school Ottawa Kent Conference-White Division with this narrow win Thursday. The Pioneers now own a 38-14 scoring edge and stand at 7-4-1 overall and 5-2-0 in the conference. Forst Hills Northern, last year’s league champion, slipped into fourth place at 8-4-0 and 4-3-0 in the league.


MCBAIN NORTHERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 1, CHEBOYGAN 1: Jana VanNoord scored off a penalty kick in the 73rd minute and Northern Michigan Christian kept its unbeaten season alive with this Northern Michigan Soccer League tie. Harper Tossey made 11 saves for NMC. Morgan Davis scored in the first half for Cheboygan.
