PREP GIRLS SOCCER ROUNDUP: St. Catherine rallies past Detroit Western; DCD, Cadillac, Fremont roll to victories

WIXOM, Mich. – Proving the theory that a soccer match is not a sprint, but a marathon game of patience and opportunity, Wixom St. Catherine of Siena Academy rallied back Monday night from a 3-1 halftime deficit to earn a come-from-behind 4-3 non-conference victory over Detroit Western.

Joanna Namel netted the hattrick, including the late game-winner, and Kendall Kufta added a goal off a free kick for the Stars. Gabby Said collected two assists and Lauren Danjou chipped in with one assists of St. Catherine (1-0-0).


DETROIT COUNTRY DAY 2, ROYAL OAK SHRINE CATHOLIC 0: Isabella Schimizzi scored off a breakaway feed from Regan Harkins for the game-winner and DCD blanked Shrine in this non-conference matchup Monday. Jenna Shaban scored an insurance goal off a free kick for the Yellowjackets (1-1-1), while Mercedes Arinez notched the shutout.


CADILLAC 4, GREENVILLE 1:  Kyrah Narovich and Sophie Clough scored in the first half and Marilyn Kinnie (penalty kick) and Carmen Gurden scored in the second half as Cadillac registered the non-league win. Avery Mickelson notched two assists and Lydia Owens recorded four saves in the win for the Vikings.


FREMONT 8, COMSTOCK PARK 0: Behind a 27-2 shots edge, Fremont rolled to this non-league victory Monday at home. Mia Clemence and Riley Chase notched a hattrick to account for six of the eight goals. Anna Norris and Maddie Mater also scored and Hallie Snyder collected just two saves for the clean sheet.


HAMILTON 8, SAUGATUCK 0: Hamilton scored early and often in recording this non-league victory Monday night.


GRAND RAPIDS WEST CATHOLIC 5, EAST KENTWOOD 4: West Catholic opened the season Monday with this wild OKC crossover victory where the two teams combined for nine goals.


NORTH MUSKEGON 2, MUSKEGON WESTERN MICHIGAN CHRISTIAN 1: Alex Johnson rose to the occasion Saturday, scoring with six seconds left in leading North Muskegon to a thrilling non-conference victory. Emmy Creed scored the first goal for North Muskegon in the 50th minute. Addison Reid had an assist and Emma Lamiman picked up the win between the pipes for the Norse. Nora Pollock scored with 3:30 remaining in regulation to tie the score for Western Michigan Christian.
