ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The first title in program history is in the book for Bloomfield Hills Christian.

The Defenders put the finishing touches on the Michigan Christian Schools Athletic Association girls soccer crown with 1-0 victory over Saline Washtenaw Christian at Oakland University.

The victory capped a school record-setting campaign where Bloomfield Hills Christian finished 14-1-0, including 5-1-0 in the Southeast Michigan Athletic Conference, and a year where the Defenders outscored the opposition 65-18 overall with three clean sheets.

Sophomore Isabelle Krieg scored in the 60th minute for Bloomfield Hills Christian off a cross from Natalie Navarre. The goal not only proved to be the game-winner for the Defenders, but it extended Krieg’s single-season school record to 34 goals on the year to go along with 13 assists.

Krieg was in on 47 of her team’s 65 goals this season. Navarre finished with 13 goals and seven assists for her team, which only carried two seniors and three juniors on a roster of 19 players.

Sophomore Alexis Ruma stopped all 12 shots she faced to earn the clean sheet – her team’s first shutout since late April. Ruma started 15 games this season, logged 1,007 minutes, allowed 14 goals, faced 81 shots on frame, and posted a .828 save percentage and a 0.94 goals-against-average this season.

While Washtenaw Christian held a narrow 13-12 shots advantage, including 12-11 with shots on goal, Bloomfield Hills held a 4-2 edge on cornerkicks. The Defenders split with the Wildcats in the regular season and Bloomfield Hills Christian was able to avenge its only regular season loss.

The 14 wins is also a school record and part of a campaign where several individual and team records were set for the Defenders. Bloomfield Hills Christian did not participate in the National Christian Schools Athletic Association national tournament.

The 2024 campaign marked not only the school’s first MCSAA title but first state crown overall for the school.

The Defenders defeated defending state champ Rochester Hills Christian 4-1 in the semifinals. Krieg notched the hattrick, Sophia Baron also scored and Natalie Navarez picked up two assists for Bloomfield Hills Christian, which led 1-0 at the half.

TIMMER SHINES FOR SACREMENTO

SACRAMENTO, Calif. - Jared Timmer earned USL Championship Team of the Week honors for the second straight week for Sacramento Republic FC of the USL-Championship. He joins teammate Luis Felipe on the 11-member squad.

Timmer plays center back, while Felipe is a midfielder. They were named to Week 21 Team of the Week selection for the 2024 campaign.

Sacramento Republic FC is coming off a week where they have posted a program-best 11th straight road game without a loss – second-best in the USL-Championship – which extended in a 1-0 victory over Detroit City FC.  The previous week saw Sacramento post a 5-2 triumph over the Oakland Roots.

Timmer earned the second consecutive selection to Team of the Week honors, recording his second assist of the year. With time winding down, Timmer sent a dangerous cross to the back post, where Russell Cicerone battled for space to drive home the game-winning header. It was a full circle moment for the two Michigan natives who were playing in front of family members and friends at Keyworth Stadium in Hamtramck, Michigan. Timmer finished the match with an 87-percent passing accuracy, two interceptions, 4-of-6 aerial duels won, and three possessions won. Since joining Republic FC last season, the veteran defender has featured in all but one of the club’s 25 clean sheets, the best mark across all of USL Championship.

Timmer played club soccer for the Grand Rapids Crew Juniors (now Midwest United) while growing up. He later played for NCAA Division I Butler University, where he earned Preseason All-Big East Conference honors three times while earning All-Big East Conference First Team honors in 2016 and third-team All-Big East Conference honors in 2019 amongst numerous postseason honors in his collegiate career.

While in high school, Timmer was considered a top-150 recruit while playing club ball the Crew Juniors and Hudsonville Unity Christian High School. He led his high school team to two MHSAA state titles during his four-year varsity career and also earned All-State First Team twice in her prep career.
