MONDAY’S PREP GIRLS SOCCER ROUNDUP: State-ranked Spring Lake, Mona Shores battle to draw; Stevenson clips Chippewa Valley; Eisenhower, Garber, Ludington roll

SPRING LAKE, Mich. – Two of the better teams in the state squared off Monday as a test to the upcoming Ottawa Kent Conference girls soccer tournaments and decided very little.

Division 2 top-ranked and host Spring Lake earned a 0-0 tie with Division 1 state-ranked Muskegon Mona Shores.

Senior Jessica Stewart recorded seven saves for Spring Lake (7-1-4), which recorded its sixth shutout of the campaign. Stewart, a Division 2 All-State Second Team selection last season, stopped a second-half penalty kick and was aided on defense by Brooke Bolthouse, Ella Rabideau and a host of defenders on the Lakers’ back line.

Spring Lake has outscored the opposition 27-9 this season during a tough schedule but could not find the back of the net against Mona Shores.

Jersey VanderWall turned away all five shots she faced for her seventh shutout of the season for Mona Shores with sterling defensive help from Mal Hogston, Emma Anderson, Amelia Coffin, Ella Kinney, Ava Freye, Lilly Houle and Katie Phillips. Shay Norden and Olivia Naylor also played well for Mona Shores in the offensive end but were thwarted by Spring Lake’s stingy defense.

Mona Shores has outscored its opposition 52-14 this season but couldn’t penetrate Spring Lake’s defense.

STERLING HEIGHTS STEVENSON 1, CLINTON TOWNSHIP CHIPPEWA VALLEY 0:

Junior Presley Jones netted her team-leading 17th goal of the season to held the Titans  (7-7-0, 4-5-0) capture this Macomb Area Conference-White Division victory. Diana Marku notched her fourth shutout of the season with defensive help from Maria Micakaj, Chloe Nissan, Sophia Gibala and Mailee McKnee.

UTICA EISENHOWER 4, GROSSE POINTE NORTH 0: Ellera Jakubowski recorded a goal and an assists as the Eagles cruised to the Macomb Area Conference-Red Division win. Maryn Smith, Ava Dukaj and Coral Dennis added goals, and Molly Mellott followed with four saves and the shutout for Eisenhower. It marked the third straight shutout and sixth overall for Eisenhower (8-1-1, 5-0-0).

ESSEXVILLE GARBER 8, ALMA 0: Garber remained in the Tri-Valley Conference-Red Division title hunt with this lopsided win Monday over Alma. Emma Betzold and Olivia Aguirre both scored hattricks and Megan Humphries added a brace for the Dukes. Natalie Fodrey netted the shutout for Essexville-Garber. The Dukes (9-2-5, 6-0-2), Freeland and Frankenmuth are all without a loss in the league standings in early May.

LUDINGTON 3, MUSKEGON ORCHARD VIEW 1: Emma McKinley got on the receiving end of two cornerkicks from Maddy Billings and host Ludington scored three unanswered goals Monday after falling behind early 1-0. Billings tied the game just before the half for Ludington (5-6-3).
