MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Minnesota United FC has signed defender Hugo Bacharach through the 2024 MLS season with options spanning 2025-27, the club announced Tuesday.

This winter, the 22-year-old Spaniard was picked No. 9 overall (first round) by Minnesota in the MLS SuperDraft presented by adidas.

A center back and defensive midfielder, Bacharach starred last season at Indiana University and posted four goals and four assists for 12 points in 20 matches. He spent the prior three seasons at Fairleigh Dickinson University, where he was named Northeast Conference Defensive Player of the Year in 2022 and was a three-time all-league choice at FDU.

Bacharach transferred to Indiana and helped the Hoosiers to both the 2023 regular season and tournament championships in the Big Ten Conference before helping his team reach the NCAA Division I Elite Eight. A mid-season move from center back to the midfield helped the Hoosiers to their league and postseason success.

Although only making the All-Big Ten Second Team in the regular season, Bacharach recorded four goals and four assists for 12 points and earned Top Drawer Soccer All-America Third Team Best XI amongst numerous postseason accolades. He was also selected Big Ten All-Tournament Team last year.

The 6-foot-4, 210-pound Bacharach aided the Bucks’ postseason run to the USL-League Two National Semifinals in both 2022 and 2023.

As a youth player, Bacharach trained in academy of LaLiga club Villarreal CF.
