LINDEN, Mich. – The first district championship in Orchard Lake St. Mary’s girls soccer program history is in the record books and the Eaglets’ storybook season will continue.
St. Mary’s, just a third-year program and just in their fourth school year with a female student population, are very much still alive in the Division 2 postseason. Senior Cameron Cole, an All-State Third Team selection last season headed to NCAA Division I University of Toledo, scored the first two goals, including the eventual game-winner in the second half, to lead the 12th-ranked Eaglets to a 3-1 victory over Lake Fenton in a Division 2 district finals match at Linden High School.
Cole now has 38 goals on the season after recording the brace against the Eagles and has 102 goals for her career. Harper Natinsky added an insurance tally in the 73rd minute to help ice the game for St. Mary’s, which has a 63-19 scoring edge this season with 11 shoutouts.
St. Mary’s (16-2-1) carries an 11-game win streak into next week’s regional rounds. The Eaglets will play an undetermined opponent June 4 at 5 p.m. at Waterford Kettering’s Larkin Stadium. St. Mary’s also won the Catholic High School League-AA Division and Cardinal Tournament crowns this season to go along with their district championship.
Ava Roy, who has signed with NCAA Division II Ferris State University, scored the goal for Lake Fenton, which finishes the season 15-3-3 and as a district runner-up and a third-place finisher in the Flint Metro League.
