Northern Michigan University graduate forward Brooke Pietila was named to the CCA All-Midwest Region Team for NCAA Division II women's soccer.


MARQUETTE, Mich. – Five members of the Northern Michigan University’s women's soccer team were named to 2024 D2CCA All-Midwest Region Teams, as announced by the Conference Commissioners Association (CCA) on Tuesday.Five Wildcats earned recognition, second-most among all teams behind Maryville University with six, and most among GLIAC teams. Stats from the entire regular season and conference tournaments were included in voting.


GLIAC Offensive Player of the Year Brooke Pietila (Brighton/Brighton HS) and GLIAC Defensive Player of the Year Hannah Kastamo (Brighton/Hartland HS) added to their respective resumes, both being named as first-team All-Midwest Region First Team honorees, as Pietila was selected as midfielder and Kastamo on defense. Pietila was fourth in the region in total assists (10), sixth in points (30) and ninth in goals (10), while Kastamo registered 16 points from five goals and six assists as a defender.


Justina L'Esperace (Hartland/Hartland HS) and Molly Pistorius both earned All-Midwest Region Second Team honors as forwards, and Maria Strom (Brighton/Brighton HS) rounded out the Wildcats with a nod on defense. L'Esperance led the region in total goals, goals per game, and was second in total points, Pistorius led the region in total assists, assists per game, and was top-10 in points, and Storm logged 1,814 minutes of playing time to lead the Wildcats.

 

GRAND VALLEY STATE LANDS FOUR ON ALL-MIDWEST SQUAD

Grand  Valley State University landed four players on the All-Midwest Team, including one on the first-team and three more players on the second-team.

 

Senior Ryann Fetty, (M) was named All-Region First Team, while juniors Cailynn Junk (G) and Kacy Lauer (D) and senior Daan Louwerse (D) all earned a spot on the All-Midwest Second Team.


NOTEBOOK

Sports information directors from NCAA Division II schools and conferences within the Midwest Region selected the all-region teams. Those selected to the first team will now move onto consideration for the All-American voting. The Division II Conference Commissioners Association encourages and promotes Division II athletics and high standards of sportsmanship as important elements of higher education. The CCA is a key communications link among the conferences as they discuss views, policies and regulations that impact Division II intercollegiate athletics and works closely with the NCAA as a communications channel to NCAA Division II member colleges and universities.
