ROCHESTER HILLS, Mich. – The school has had a few name changes over the years, but there will be something also new out on the athletics playing surface this year – at least on the soccer pitch.
Rochester Christian University has partnered with the Shelby Twp.-based Premier Media Group and its flagship production Michigan Soccer Network to live stream its collegiate soccer games this fall season.
PMG-MSN came into an agreement last month to host and produce 10 home games for the RCU women’s soccer team. The school also came into an agreement to do nine home games for the men’s soccer program, effective Aug. 5.
PMG-MSN will provide on air talent in terms of play-by-play announcer, color analysts and a game producer along with quality content on its website, www.michigansoccernetwork.com. MSN’s YouTube channel for live streams can be found at www.youtube.com/@MICHIGANSOCCERNETWORK.
“I think this is awesome for our women’s soccer program and the university as a whole,” said Rochester Christian University women’s soccer coach Skipper Mukhtar. “We are super excited to have our games live-streamed by MSN. There’s some great soccer talent in the WHAC and these games need to be live streamed. Remember, there will be four games that MSN will broadcast that will feature opponents that qualified for the (NAIA) national tournament last year.”
Since forming in May of 2021, the PMG and MSN have broadcasted over 1,000 games on its own YouTube channel or on other pre-determined media outlets and have conducted live stream broadcasts for more than 15 leagues nationwide as well dozens of amateur, pre-professional and high school teams from around the Michigan and Midwest.
Premier Media Group and the Michigan Soccer Network was founded by local Oakland County resident Jonathan Turner and the PMG Partnership, and also features a cast of media specialists from around the state of Michigan.
Rochester Christian University women’s soccer program finished 12-7-0 overall in 2023 and 6-5-0 in a loaded Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference, which featured four teams that competed in the NAIA national tournament a year ago. The Warriors lost in the WHAC quarterfinals last October to Northwestern Ohio University.
Rochester Christian University plays its home games at the Michigan Stars Soccer Complex in Washington Twp, Mich., just south of Romeo. One women’s soccer game will also be played at Warren Da La Salle High School this fall.
The first women’s soccer home game live streamed will be Aug. 20 against Holy Cross College at the MSSC. The RCU men’s soccer schedule has not yet been formerly released.
Rochester Christian University’s men’s soccer team ventured through a major rebuilding season in 2023, going 4-10-2 overall and 2-8-1 Wolverine Hoosier Athletic Conference, which had three NAIA national tournament qualifiers.
The Warriors recently hired Nicolas Ranieri as the new men’s soccer coach, effective July 27.
NAME CHANGES
Currently listed as Rochester Christian University to back to its roots, the school opened its doors in 1959 as North Central Christian College before changing its name to Michigan Christian College in 1961. The school switched again in 1997 to become Rochester College and switched once again in 2019 to Rochester University.
The school changed once again in early 2024 to Rochester Christian University.
PMG will also be holding various “Win A Free Broadcast” contest at various parts of the fall, winter (indoor) and spring seasons.
