AUBURN HILLS, Mich. – Teams want to be peaking at this time of the season.

Auburn Hills Oakland Christian has done just that.

After finishing fourth in a loaded Michigan Independent Athletic Conference-Blue Division this season, the Lancers have gone 5-0-1 in their last six games. That elevation has aided Oakland Christian to capture its first district title since 2017.

The Lancers tamed Rochester Hills Lutheran Northwest Friday 2-0 to advance to the regional round. Oakland Christian will face Saginaw Valley Lutheran in the regional semifinals next Tuesday at 7 p.m. at Lansing Christian with the hopes of extending its postseason stay at least a couple of more games.

Oakland Christian (12-6-2) picked up a first-minute goal from Tommy Seidel, courtesy of a Daniel Ermshler pass, to go up 1-0 and the Lancers never relinquished control. Seidel converted a penalty kick in the second half to cap the scoring for the winners.

Brandon Pipp, Alex Almy, Joel Murphy and Alex Favaro combined forces to form a lockdown defensive unit that helped the team earn its second straight postseason shutout and seventh overall on the season. Carson Goetz notched the clean sheet on three saves against Lutheran Northwest, a team loaded with freshmen and sophomores which made up a majority of its roster.

The Crusaders finished 3-14-2.

Oakland Christian (12-6-3) carried a large freshman class last year but had shown great improvement this year which led to the district title. The Lancers have outscored the opposition 72-27 this season.

Oakland Christian will face Saginaw Valley Lutheran in the regional semifinals Oct. 22 at Lansing Christian.
