MICHIGAN SOCCER NETWORK: MSN NEWS: www.michigansoccernetwork.com/msnnews

Michigan Soccer Network Web and Content Editor and Director of News Dan Stickradt scouts the schools No. 41 through No. 50 in our third annual Super 50 Boys Soccer Teams. Games through Sept. 5 were considered and three rounds of preseason surveys were issued in August asking for coaches’ input from across the state.

31. GRAND RAPIDS CHRISTIAN (18-5-2): There’s a new sheriff in town with Tim TerHaar taking over this program in June for the defending Division 2 state champions Eagles. Grand Rapids Christian again is embarking on another rugged non-league and Ottawa Kent Conference-White Division schedule and have faired good in the first couple of weeks with a 5-2-1 record. The Eagles have outscored the opposition 22-5 with five shutouts. GRC was ranked all season but tied for third place in the OKC-White regular season, finished fifth in the OKC-White Tournament and landed fourth overall with 9.5 points in the final conference standings. The team still finished with a quality 6-2-2 record against league competition. Overall, the Eagles posted a 72-19 scoring edge against their 25 opponents, recorded 10 clean sheets and were only shut out four times during a difficult schedule. Grand Rapids Christian returned five starters, including senior John Cassiday (F/M, All-State Second Team), senior Soren White (D, 6-foot-4, All-State First Team) who is getting attention from some NCAA Division I and Division II schools, senior Peter Borst (M/F), junior David Postarelli (M) and sophomore Liam Jansen (M). In total, 17 of the 25 players on last year’s state tournament roster return as juniors Emmett Vance (M) and Maxwell Visser (M) and seniors Dimas Perez-Guinet (F) and Isaac Williams (F) all saw substantial minutes last year. Seniors Max Michael (F), Abel denDulk (D) and William Bufalini (G) and juniors Seth Rozema (F), Micah Rogers (M), William Bush (F) and Joshua Dukema (G) are also varsity returnees seeking more minutes along with the arrival of several newcomers. Senior Boris Lalic (M) is the top newcomer coming over from the Midwest United MLS Next Academy. He’ll help soften the blow of a solid six starters that graduated last year.

32. GRAND RAPIDS FOREST HILLS NORTHERN (16-2-0): The Huskies are coming off a great season in 2023 during Juan Torres’ first year as head coach. Northern went 9-1-0 against Ottawa Kent Conference-White Division competition to win the loaded league outright. Forest Hills Northern ended up posting an impressive 70-9 scoring edge and 12 shutouts over 18 games. FHN was never shut out one single time last season. The Huskies did see their season end with a 2-1, double-overtime loss to fellow state powerhouse Rockford in the D-1 district semifinals. Down in Division 2 this season, Northern has reloaded its lineup after graduating five players that earned All-OKC-White Division First Team honors, three others that earned All-OKC-White Division Honorable Mention status, and 15 total players to graduation. So far this team is ranked in the top-15 in Division 2 behind a 19-12 scoring edge and a 5-1-2 record through Sept. 5. Junior Lukas Darling (6-2, 195) is a quality keeper, while seniors Henry Lincolnhol (M) and Tyler Shin (D), juniors Beau Lincoln (M) and Zack Schafer (D) and sophomore Drin Mandija (M) are some of the players that have stepped up and carried the torch this far season. Seniors Benjamin Pease (M) and Carter Mackson (M) have both seen increased roles and are part of a small four-player senior class, as has junior Almedin Hoxha (M/D). Juniors Jason Scruggs (F), Malachi McWilliams, Blake Hossler, Samm Garrett, Nicolas Campos, William Watson, Jaxon Byl, Dyland Van Skiver and Ethan Argenzio, and sophomores Enil Hoxha (F), Luca Enrico, Liam Tilly and Benjamin Keeth have moved up to varsity ranks. Two freshmen have made an impact, William Baar (F) and Sabastian Salgado-Lavoigne (M). This team has a ton of speed with several track and field standouts on the roster.

33. ALLENDALE (10-4-6): Like a fast-rising single on the Hot 100, the Falcons are blasting up the chart like a team destined for a top-10 peak. This team’s progression comes from a 3-11-0 record (2020), 5-11-3 (2021), 9-8-0 (2022) to the 10-4-6 record in 2023. A year ago, Allendale outscored the opposition 43-16 with 11 shutouts but played a very rugged schedule and finished fourth in a loaded Ottawa Kent Conference-Blue Division behind powers Holland Christian (2022 D-3 state champion, 2023 D-2 Final Four), Hudsonville Unity Christian (2023 D-3 state champion) and Fruitport (2023 D-2 Elite Eight). This year the Falcons have joined a new alliance, the River Cities Conference, where they are one of the favorites and playing more like a seasoned, well-oiled machine than anything else. The reason is that only one non-starter graduated and one reserve opted not to come back. The whole starting lineup and several key depth players are back, and this team is 7-1-0 with a 43-4 scoring edge and five clean sheets as of early-September. There is talent all over the field. Senior Gavin Blanksma (CB, All-League First Team) is a physical 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds and was a 2024 Western Michigan University Team Camp All-Star selection in July. Senior Hogan Malott (CB, All-League First Team, All-State Honorable Mention) and junior Jacob Dykstra (CM, All-State Honorable Mention) are also returning starters and key cogs in the engine. Sophomores Kolby Malott (M) and Magnus Myer (F/M) are both returning starters and very accomplished on the club circuit and could very well be two of the most decorated players to ever don an Allendale jersey if they continue to progress and produce the next few years. Malott was an All-League First Team player in the OKC-Blue last season and Myer is in the national pool on the Olympic Developmental Program U15 circuit. Seniors Alex Geniuse (G, All-League First Team), Andrew Scholten (OB), Jacob Devito (OB), Hudson Kragt (F), Jackson Meyers (F/M), Jacob Karsten (F/M) and Noah Neinhuis (M) are other players that started the bulk of last year and again this year. There’s also a deep bench as this team tries to chase its first league since 2017 and first elusive district trophy, although there are a multitude of ranked teams or quality opponents in the Falcons’ district again this year that it will be a complete dogfight and crapshoot of who advances.

34. ROCKFORD (17-4-2): After winning its first district title since 2007, Rockford made a run to the Division 1 state championship game in 2022 for the first time in school history before falling to Rochester Adams (2-0). Last year the Rams nearly pulled it off again by advancing to the Division 1 state semifinals before being ousted by Brighton (3-1). While Rockford has demonstrated in the recent past and has produced on the field a winning reputation, it will have to continue to do so this year with mostly a new roster. A total of 12 players graduated last year, plus three other starters from the 2023 campaign opted to go play MLS Next Academy with Midwest United this year. Only two starters returned, senior Dugan Black (F/M), who was all-conference as a sophomore two years ago, and senior Luke Carroll (M), an All-League First Team pick last year for a squad that captured the Ottawa Kent Conference Red Division, district and regional crowns. Black can be a dazzling player when he doesn’t try to do too much, and Carroll is a steady presence out on the field. Senior goalkeeper Kyle Deming began last season as a starter, but an early-season injury shelved him for most of his junior campaign and multiple injuries to teammates forced Rockford to actually play its No. 3 goalie most of last season. Seniors Maximus Denton (M) and Drew Alexander (OB) played some minutes on a deep team last year, but injuries this season have seen them go in and out of the starting lineup during the team’s 5-2-1 start. Senior forward Otto Pigorsh (F) spent scant time on the pitch last year but has been a pleasant surprise this year, as has sophomore newcomer Ian Lynch (M). Seniors Sawyer Bowman (D), Alex Blair (M) and Caleb Breadon (M) didn’t play a ton last season, while seniors Holton Peoples (G), Carson Modisher (D), Gavin Williams (F) and Jake Blue (G) are amongst the bevy of new players trying to carry the torch. Juniors Lucas VanDrie (D), Elijah Dixon (F), Miles Chapin (CB), Charlie Hall (D), Josh Jameson (M) and Parker Pancy (G) and sophomore Braedon Forrester (M) are some of the other newcomers that have gained minutes. Rockford coach Tim Boleman kept four goalkeepers this year as a safety net, but he will have to do some serious coaching magic to get this much less experienced side back to the Final Four for the third straight year.

35. EAST KENTWOOD (12-5-1): After finishing second in a deep OKC-Red Division last season, the Falcons were upset in the opening round of Division 1 districts by unranked Byron Center (2-0). East Kentwood was ranked most of last season and had an explosive offense that outscored the opposition 62-26. The Falcons only had three shutouts and were blanked three times overall, including in their final two games of the campaign. East Kentwood suffered a huge blow back in May when senior Brody Conlon (F/M), a two-time All-State First Team honoree and one of the leading candidates for Mr. Soccer 2024, went down with a knee injury during a club game and is out for the season. So far this season, the Falcons own an 18-16 scoring edge with multiple first-year starters but have been somewhat inconsistent overall. Seniors Andy Tran (M, All-League Honorable Mention), Labee Chrispine (M/F) and Timothy Kilongozi (D/M) and juniors Fiston Kavitare (F/M, All-League First Team) and Innocent Ngabo (CB) are also key players. Kilongozi comes over from the MLS Next Academy circles and Chrispine is off to a torrid pace scoring goals, as he tries to replace the offensive production of the injured Conlon. Seniors Mason Buyze (D), Christopher Guillory (F), Yhair Hernandez-Vasquez (F/D), David Ismail (M) and Jose Paulino-Ventura (F), junior Isaiah Hudnell (M) and sophomores Carter Elias (D/M) and Maid Mujic (F) are back in uniform.

36. MACOMB LUTHERAN NORTH (9-10-1): Last year the Mustangs were a little up-and-down competing in the CHSL-AA Division and a loaded Division 3 district. The team finished tied for fourth in its league and were knocked out in the Division 3 district semifinals. This time around, Lutheran North has opened the first couple weeks of the season ranked in the top five in Division 3 at 7-0-0 and are 3-0-0 in conference play through Sept. 4. The Mustangs have outscored their foes 18-3 with three clean sheets. In comparison, last year Lutheran North only outscored the opposition 58-43 but had two shutouts and finished just under the five-hundred mark. Sophomore Julian Gibbs (F) is a lightning quick and athletic target who earned All-State Third Team honors last season as a freshman. Seniors Mateus Brajak (M), Stavio Daman (M), Vasilios Kirchhoff (D), Isaac Maier, Andrew Nastasi, Camdon Nilson, Dominic Saroki (F/AM) and Emilio Torres (D) lead a talented and much-improved senior class. Juniors Deter DiLella, William Pruzinski (G), Ian Ford, Jayce Van Hevel, Nathan Vani and Marcello Vitale also are gaining minutes. A talented freshman class has aided the Mustangs’ rise to the top five, including Aidan Vermiglio (M/F), Tayler Avery, Marcus Brajak, Luca Gibbs, Mateo Hanna and Leo Vani (D/M), which should help keep this program relevant for the next three years.

37. DETROIT COUNTRY DAY (19-3-2): One of the state’s most storied programs dating back to the 1970s, DCD finished as the Division 3 state runner-up last season and is still a top-tier team this year in D-3. With senior Alex Eby (CB, All-State First Team) opting to play with the Michigan Wolves MLS Next Academy this season, that leaves this team without a possible field player worthy of a Dream Team selection, but the Yellowjackets are still solid. They do play in a loaded district with top-five ranked teams Pontiac Notre Dame Prep and Macomb Lutheran North but could make another deep run if they can escape that rugged district. Last year DCD outscored its opposition 78-17 with 11 shutouts enroute to claiming the state runner-up trophy following a 3-2 loss in the finals to Hudsonville Unity Christian, now up in Division 2. Through Sept. 4, the Yellowjackets have outscored their opponents 29-11 this season. Senior goalkeeper Finn Hounsell (All-State Second Team) is one of the state’s better netminders, while juniors Tino Haratsaris (D/M) and Micah Zacks (M/F) are also returning starters. Senior Adrian Niamoto (F) returns to the program after spending last season with the Vardar MLS Next Academy, while seniors Arya Ruprauju (M), Antonio Schmizzi (F) and junior Lyle Stover (D) gaining a ton of minutes off the bench last season. Seniors Abe Chatthi (D), Griffin Hunter (D, Dominic Soave (D) and Anand Keslicker (F), junior Nathan Ma (M) and sophomores Krusting Bushkashi (F) and Matthew Dilley (D) were also bench players a year ago waiting for their opportunity for more minutes this year. Freshmen Andrew Quan (M) and Solomon Reece (M) are gaining quality minutes in the first couple weeks of the campaign.

38. FLINT POWERS CATHOLIC (17-5-4): Another deep run in the postseason to the Final Four last year has the Chargers again thinking big. The only Division 3 program in the Saginaw Valley League, Powers Catholic should contend with Grand Blanc and Lapeer in this year’s league title race and be a serious threat to advance in the postseason again this season. The Chargers outscored the opposition 88-31 last season with nine shutouts, including 27-5 with three shutouts in the state tournament. Even though a pair of four-year starters departed and with that some serious firepower, Flint Powers is off to a 5-2-0 start with a 16-9 scoring edge this season. Senior Leo Stravato (D/M, All-League First Team, All-State First Team) and juniors Reagan Cameron (M) and Logan Johnson (M) are back to lead this year’s charge. Senior Armando Lopez (G) and junior Grant Robers (D) are also returning starters. Junior Collin Johnson (M), senior Julian Damouni (M) and sophomore Mason Mather (M/F) also return to this talented lineup.

39. BIRMINGHAM BROTHER RICE (8-7-1): The Warriors are a product of their environment year-after-year. They are good enough to win league or district championships but because they play such a rugged conference and non-conference schedule each year, one can never tell where Brother Rice might finish. Last year the Warriors won eight games but were never blown out either. Brother Rice outscored the opposition 32-28 with three shutouts and several of its games were one- or two-goal affairs. So far this season through Sept. 5, the Warriors are 3-3-1 with an 18-14 scoring edge and one clean sheet and the schedule will not get any easier. This team has wins, losses and ties against some other teams on this list that makes it difficult to find the right place for the Warriors. Sometimes they play like a top-10 team and other times they do not. Seniors Anthony Mancani (M, All-League First Team) and Ethan Brown (F) along with sophomore Carlos Naoum (CB) are all quality players that lead the way. Seniors Dom Katschmer (CB), Ben Bingham (G) and Nick Lazinski (M) and junior Ryan Hayes (F) also started games last year and will be key components throughout this season.

40. SALINE (9-4-5): Back-to-back Division 1 district champs, the Hornets have their third head coach in three years in Bartley Lydy, who comes up from the Toledo, Ohio, area where he is a former NCAA Division I college player and has ample experience coaching at the high school, club and Olympic Developmental Program levels. The expectations won’t change for Saline, which finished fourth in the Southeastern Conference-Red Division last year, outscored the opposition 39-17 and recorded seven clean sheets before bowing out in the Division 1 regional semifinals to powerhouse Northville (3-1). Seniors Jackson Phillips (All-League, All-District), William Loveland (CB) and Juan Balda (D/M) are third-year veterans, while seniors Micah Gray (M) and Jaedyn Sifuna (M/F) and juniors Zack Heisler (F/M) and Bryce Nadig (M) are other key components. Heisler (6-1, 200) was last year’s leading goal-scorer and is a potential NCAA Division I or Division II recruit. Seniors Keegan Cahill (M), Devin Vreeland (D) and Owen Block (D) also return, as does junior Caleb Ciechanowski (D). Senior Eric Friedholm (G) and Jack Wilczynski (G) are the newbies in goal and part of a cast of 11 first-year varsity players. Saline must replace 14 players that departed via graduation but are off to a 3-2-2 start with a 16-6 scoring edge and three shutouts.

Michigan-based Premier Media Group is expanding ... don't miss out on coverage

SHELBY TWP., Mich. – The Premier Media Group is expanding its broadcast net.

And we want you.

The Michigan-based PMG, founded in 2022, its flagship production the Michigan Soccer Network and all other affiliates, is actively scheduling games in a wide variety of high school leagues and conferences, small colleges, amateur, pre-professional, youth club, and other avenues of the beautiful game in Michigan.

The schedule for the fall semester is starting to fill up across Michigan.

The daily connections are being made and the spreading of our brand has brought in great reviews.

Would the coaches, administration, student-athletes, players and fans like for us to broadcast a game near you?

Regardless of the now-popular remote broadcast games, on-location broadcast games, on-location shows or in-studio daily shows, there is a simple process. Visit the website www.michigansoccernetwork.com or click below for details.

PMG will also be holding various “Win A Free Broadcast” contest at various parts of the fall, winter (indoor) and spring seasons.

"(Michigan Soccer Network) has does a great job making these kids feel special,” offered Michal Hatfield, girls soccer coach at Trenton High School who also coaches in the Detroit City FC youth club system. “The broadcasts were professionally done and we were very pleased when they did our games. They did a great job with (play-by-play), graphics and postgame interviews with the kids. And a lot of people saw it. We had uncles and aunts that have never seen their nieces play get a chance to watch them on YouTube). And all of the kids were able to jump on there (the YouTube channel) afterwards and watch the game.”

The MSN staff had the pleasure of broadcasting multiple games the last two school years for schools in the Oakland Activities Association and have received its fair share of feedback. The goal is to conduct broadcasts of games throughout the state of Michigan, especially in the larger populated regions.

“MSN has done a great job with broadcasts in our league (Macomb Area Conference),” said Trevor Foster, current head coach of the Romeo girls soccer program, goalkeepers coach for Oakland University’s soccer programs, and director at the Michigan Goalkeepers Academy. “I know the girls love it. And I know some of the parents were putting their earphones on and listening to the game when they were (in the stands) and it gives relatives a chance to watch games that they normally wouldn’t be able to.

“It’s as close to professional (broadcast) as any broadcast of high school soccer that you will see out there,” added Foster. “Plus, they do all types of (amateur and pre-professional) leagues out there (in Michigan).”

“We were very pleased, especially with the knowledge of high school soccer in the state of Michigan from the play-by-play announcers and color commentators,” said Todd Heugh, the current director of athletics at Troy Athens High School and a former coach at the school. “They put together a valuable (product) and the games are live on YouTube for everyone to watch, even if you are (a relative or an alumni) not in the area. I know coaches go on there (YouTube), too, to watch games of an upcoming opponent.”

The PMG staff has a goal of 100-plus games this fall from mid-August through November. The Michigan Soccer Network conducted a record 50 remote or in-person broadcasts during the month of June.

PMG also has contacts within Michigan, the Midwest and even in different parts of the U.S. and have become broadcast partners for more than 15 different leagues or franchises within those leagues over the past three years. PMG has multiple broadcasting rights for within the USL-League Two, USL-W League, UPSL, MWPL, NISA, WSPL and more and constantly expanding its web of coverage both on various YouTube channels and on our website at www.michigansoccernetwork.com. It has broadcasted more high school boys soccer and high school girls soccer at more than 75 high schools in Michigan.

“MSN has been a great media partner for the Bucks and AFC,” said Costa Papista, President of the Flint City Bucks and Flint City AFC of the USL-League Two and USL-W League, respectively. “The production and overall quality of our live broadcasts are professional grade. Flint City fans, sponsors and supporters greatly appreciate the MSN quality. We are always receiving excellent feedback and comments from our fans and visiting fans as well.”

And now the busy season starts in earnest with high school, college and youth club team beginning the 2024-25 school year.
