MILFORD, Mich. – Milford and South Lyon shared the regular season crown within the Lakes Valley Conference as both collected 18 points in the standings.
Only one team could be crowned the champion of the LVC Tournament and overall winner of the nine-school conference.
Milford continued its unbeaten season, edging visiting South Lyon 2-1 Tuesday night in the LVC finals. The win put the finishing touches on the Mavericks’ first overall league title in 38 years.
Milford’s girls team ended a 36-year drought last May when the Mavericks captured the LVC crown as well.
Four different players gained points in the win for Milford (10-0-3), which has outscored the opposition 37-6 over 15 games with eight shutouts. Only six schools have s cored in games against the Mavericks and no team has scored multiple goals against the team’s stout back line. Milford has a team goals-against-average of 0.40 after the contest.
Seniors Cullen Broyles and Miles Dameworth scored for the Mavericks, while Tyler Hannert and Benjamin Shaw drew assists for Milford. The Mavericks are 11-0-4 this season (5-0-3 in the regular season league standings) and gained the No. 1 seed for the Lakes Valley Conference Tournament. Senior Drew Lansberry picked up his 11th win in goal.
Riley Wenzel scored for South Lyon (8-5-0), which finished 6-2-0 in the regular season league standings but have only outscored the opposition 27-17 overall this season and have played only 13 games on the year.
