Hastings Barry County Christian's boys soccer team finished 1-2-0 at the National Christian Schools Athletic Association national tournament and ended up second in the Division 5 bracket. The Eagles set numerous schools records this season and posted a fine 17-4-1 overall record in 2024.

XENIA, Ohio – Behind some mixed results, both Kent City Algoma Christian and Hastings Barry County Christian posted top 30 finishes at the recent National Christian Schools Athletic Association Fall Boys Soccer National Tournament.
The tournament was held at the Athletes In Action Sports Complex in Xenia, Ohio, Nov. 23-25.
Both teams lost in the opening round of the tournament and dropped down to the consolation bracket.
Hastings Barry County Christian opened up with a defeat to Grayslake (Ill.) Westlake Christian (3-1) to fall move into consolation bracket. The Eagles rebounded with a 3-1 victory over Portland (Ma.) Grace Baptist Christian (3-1) and then finished up with a loss to Newington (Ct.) Emmanuel Christian (7-0) in the final game, which was the Division 5 finals. Barry County Christian was outscored 11-4 at the national tournament.
The Eagles, who also reached the state semifinals of the Michigan Christian Schools Athletic Association tournament, posted a 17-4-1 overall record for the 2024 campaign. Barry County Christian finished with a 93-34 scoring edge in 22 games this season, posted six shutouts and were shut out only three times. The Eagles, who were the runners-up in the Great Lakes 6 Conference in the regular season, finished with a 4.23 goals-per-game average, while the team goals-against-average ended up at 1.55.
The team, which ended up with a No. 10 NCSAA national ranking at season’s end, is coached by Josh Lamphere and Justin Schultz.
Kent City Algoma Christian opened up with a loss to Gallipolis (Ohio) Ohio Valley Christian (3-2), then followed up with wins over Martinsburg (W. Va.) Faith Christian (5-0) and Mason (Ohio) Mars Hill Academy (4-0). The third game came in the Division 3 consolation finals. The Knights finished with a 2-1 record with two shutouts and an 11-3 scoring edge at the NCSAA Tournament.
In the final NCSAA national ranking after the tournament, Algoma Christian finished with a No. 26 ranking and a 13-4-1 overall record. For the entire season, the Knights posted seven shutouts and were never shut out all season while outscoring the opposition 81-21. The Knights averaged 4.50 goals-per-game and posted a team goals-against-average at 1.17 over 18 games. Algoma Christian was the Great Lakes 6 Conference regular season, tournament and overall champion.
Algoma Christian is coached by Justin VanderKoddle.
Algoma Christian did not participate in one of the state tournaments held by the MHSAA Division 4, Michigan Association of Christian Schools D-I or the Michigan Christian Schools Athletic Association.
On the NCSAA All-Tournament/All-American teams, Barry County Christian junior Isaiah Lamphere (F) and seniors Keygan Robinson (F/M) and Noah Hilley (G) made the list, as did Algoma Christian senior Lucas Bouma (F/M).
Hilley made 48 saves in 59 chances alone over the course of the NCSAA tournament and recorded 220 saves in 254 chances this season overall. Lamphere was one of Michigan’s top goal scorers this season, collecting 51 goals and 20 assists for 122 points. Robinson added 29 goals and 30 assists for 88 points.

Kent City Algoma Christian's boys soccer team competed once again at the National Christian Schools Athletic Association tournament recently down in Xenia, Ohio, and finished second in the Division 3 consolation bracket. The Knights finished the year 13-4-1 overall on the 2024 campaign and were also league champions in the Great Lakes 6 Conference.
