NOTABLES/OUTLOOK/COACH’S QUOTE: Fowlerville was a bit inconsistent last season, which hurt it in the CAAC-Red. The Gladiators finished back in fifth place despite holding a 52-38 overall scoring edge on the campaign. The team recorded four shutouts and were blanked four times. This year Fowlerville started 1-4-0 through April 17, scoring six while conceding 19 goals. Two of those losses were in league play, but there is still plenty of time to right the ship.
SCHOOL: Haslett

2023 OVERALL AND LEAGUE RECORD/ FINISH: 9-8-1, 3-2-0 Capital Area Athletic Conference-Red Division (third, nine points)
2023 STATE TOURNAMENT RESULTS: Def. Fowlerville (10-2); lost in D-2 district semifinals to Mason (3-0)

KEY NEWCOMERS: Makayla Muhammad, jr. D; Mya Muhammad, fr. F; Alex Sharrow, fr. F.
NOTABLES/OUTLOOK/COACH’S QUOTE: Haslett captured nine wins last season and is trying to improve upon its third-place finish in the CAAC-Red. The Vikings barely outscored the opposition last season 50-49 and recorded five shutouts. This year through April 17, Haslett has posted a 2-2-1 record but a 21-7 scoring edge, although most of those goals came in two games. The Vikings own two clean sheets this season. The team has also had three games postponed due to bad weather so far this season.
SCHOOL: Lansing Eastern

2023 OVERALL AND LEAGUE RECORD/ FINISH: 0-10-2, 0-5-0 Capital Area Athletic Conference-Red Division (sixth, no points)

RETURNING STARTERS: No players specified.
OTHER KEY RETURNEES: No players specified.
KEY NEWCOMERS: No players specified.
ROSTER: No list submitted.
NOTABLES/OUTLOOK/COACH’S QUOTE: Like many other city schools in Michigan, the Quakers struggle on the soccer pitch playing mostly suburban schools who have many high- and medium-level club soccer players up and down their rosters. Lansing Eastern does not. Last season the Quakers were outscored 83-5 and this year the beginning is off to even a rougher start with a scoreless 0-6-0 record.
SCHOOL: Mason
HEAD COACH: Christine Hursey
2023 OVERALL AND LEAGUE RECORD/ FINISH: 13-5-1, 5-0-0 Capital Area Athletic Conference-Red Division (first, 15 points)
2023 STATE TOURNAMENT RESULTS: Def. Haslett (3-0); lost in D-2 district finals to DeWitt (1-0, 2OT)
RETURNING STARTERS: Reegyn Cady, sr. M (All-League); Allison Wheeler, sr. D (All-League); Alexis Haynie, soph. M; Audrey Walkington, sr. G (All-State Honorable Mention); Mya Carnevale, sr. M; Ava Ruster, jr. D (All-State Honorable Mention); Sarah Pluff, jr. D/M; McKenzie Lockwood, jr. F.
OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Lilyana Graham, sr. D; Bailey Stewart, sr. F; Abigail Meyers, jr. F/M; Adellyn Miller, soph. M/F.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Brenna Budzynski, fr. M; Kaitlyn Hills, fr.; Lyza Ruster, fr.; Morgan Trimmer, fr.; Riley Kerschke, jr.; Izabelle Mitchell, jr.; Madilyn Savoie, soph F.; Keating Smith, jr.
NOTABLES/OUTLOOK/COACH’S QUOTE: Mason is coming off a strong season where they were perfect in the CAAC-Red Division and a stout defensive team, conceding just 12 goals all year. The Bulldogs did score 48 and posted nine shutouts to add to their impressive totals. Mason also lost in the D-2 district finals to powerhouse DeWitt. This year Mason has been in the D-2 state rankings and started 4-1-1 through April 17. The Bulldogs have three clean sheets and outscored their opposition 14-3.
SCHOOL: St. Johns
HEAD COACH: Ryan Nevins
2023 OVERALL AND LEAGUE RECORD/ FINISH: 7-5-5, 2-2-1 Capital Area Athletic Conference-Red Division (fourth, seven points)
2023 STATE TOURNAMENT RESULTS: Lost in D-2 pre-districts to DeWitt (3-0)
RETURNING STARTERS: No players specified.
OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Olivia Arnston, sr.; Aivree Baldwin, jr.; Teagan Benjamin, soph.; Natalie Bounds, sr.; Allison Clarke, sr.; Abigail Hendy, sr.; Madison Hendy, soph.; Morgan Jubeck, jr.; Sydney Moon, soph.; Maya O’Rourke, soph.; Alivia Simi, sr.; Paige Thelen, sr.; Gretchen Worsley, jr.; Lily Abbott, sr.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Alliyah Williams, fr.; Abigail DeRosia, jr.; Quinn Fedewa, sr.; Anastacia Hearn, sr.; Allyse Johnson, sr.; Eliana Lounds, soph.; Savannah Prince, sr.
NOTABLES/OUTLOOK/COACH’S QUOTE: St. Johns is coming off a year where they had nearly as many ties (five) as wins (seven). The Redwings only scored 29 goals last season but was a good defensive team that recorded eight shutouts and only allowed 16 goals in 17 games. Tis year St. Johns is off to a quality 3-1-2 start through April 17, has outscored the opposition 12-5 and posted three clean sheets. Can this team move up in the final CAAC-Red standings with their defensive style of play and will the offense get untracked more this season?
SCHOOL: Williamston
HEAD COACH: Erin Richards, second season.
2023 OVERALL AND LEAGUE RECORD/ FINISH: 13-6-2, 3-1-1 Capital Area Athletic Conference-Red Division (second, 10 points)
2023 STATE TOURNAMENT RESULTS: Def. Durand (10-0); def. Ovid-Elsie (5-1, district finals); def. Quincy (7-0, regional semifinals); lost in D-3 regional finals to Grosse Ile (2-1)
RETURNING STARTERS: Sydney Eiler, sr. D (All-State Honorable Mention); Ellyson Gorsline, soph. M (All-State Honorable Mention); Ashley Stover, sr. M (All-State Second Team); Ava Broka, sr. M; Ava Palmatier, jr. G; Athena Hart, jr. F.
OTHER KEY RETURNEES: Kailean Mercado, soph. F; Ella Schafer, sr. D; Avery Rojek, soph. D.
KEY NEWCOMERS: Maya McCullen, fr. F; Kalin Emmons, fr. D; Cara Bond, fr. M/D; Evie Stornant, fr. D; Melanie Milam, fr. M.
ROSTER: Kalli Stump, soph. G; Ava Palmatier, jr. G; Ally Bennett, sr. F; Avery Rojek, soph. D; Athena Hart, jr. D; Reese Supianoski, soph. F; Kailean Mercado, soph. F; Elly Gorsline, soph. M; Gabi LeClear, sr. F; Maya McCullen, fr. F; Kalin Emmons, fr. D; Sydney Eiler, sr. M/F; Cara Bond, fr. M/D; Mac Munk, jr. D; Ella Schafer, sr. D; Zoe Cosner-Almanza, jr. F; Evie Stornant, fr. D; Abby Cobb, sr. F; Ashley Stover, sr. M; Anna Coss, jr. F; Claire Mourey, soph. F; Mallory Duffy, sr. F; Jackson Harlan, soph. M; Melanie Milam, fr. M; Mikenna Step, soph. M.
NOTABLES/OUTLOOK/COACH’S QUOTE: Two years ago the Hornets won the Division 3 state title and despite graduating five All-State players from that team, came back in 2023 and still won 13 games, finished second in the CAAC-Red Division, won a district championship and reached the D-3 regional finals before falling to eventual state runner-up Grosse Ile (2-1). There were four future college athletes on last year’s roster, including one that ventured onto the NCAA Division I ranks at Michigan State. The Hornets posted nine shutouts and outscored the opposition 74-20 last season. It’s strange to think that Williamston is rebuilding this year after several straight years as a ranked team. They are not bad, just young as the five freshmen and seven sophomores indicate and several first-year varsity players on the roster. So far through April 17 this year, Williamston is 1-1-2 with two shutouts and a 15-9 scoring edge on the board.
